A fire at a nightclub in North Macedonia has resulted in the deaths of 51 individuals and injuries to more than 100 others.
Fifty-one individuals lost their lives, and over 100 sustained injuries when a fire erupted in a nightclub in the North Macedonian town of Kocani early Sunday morning, as reported by Interior Minister Pance Toskovski.
The fire was ignited by "pyrotechnic devices" utilized during a concert, according to Toskovski.
"Sparks ignited the fire, which rapidly spread throughout the discotheque," he explained.
A video from the event, authenticated by Reuters, depicts a band performing on stage, accompanied by two flares emitting white sparks into the air. The sparks ignited the ceiling above the band, prompting them to retreat as the footage ends.
Local television footage revealed firefighters extinguishing the charred and smoldering entrance of the nightclub, known as 'Pulse.'
North Macedonia’s MRT public broadcaster indicated that 27 individuals were admitted to Skopje City Hospital with serious burns, while another 23 were receiving treatment at the Clinical Center. The report noted that some of the injured were minors.
The fire broke out at 3 a.m. in Kocani.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expressed his condolences in a Facebook post, stating, "This is a challenging and profoundly sorrowful day for Macedonia! The loss of so many young lives is irreparable, and the anguish of the families, loved ones, and friends is immeasurable."
He urged all relevant institutions, including health services and authorities, to take immediate action to assist the injured and support the affected families.
